Too much work?

How many hours you work is a sort of status symbol in the USA, proudly regarding our inclination to work 50-60hrs as a badge of success or achievement. But then how many of us can say we really enjoy our jobs? We do them because they provide income to let us achieve what we want to get done. We have jobs to pay for the house, the car, the kids, etc.

Now I just finished listening to a book entitled, “The Four Hour Work Week”. And one of the most important lessons I walked away from the book with is that most of us don’t love our work and only do it for the income it provides. And we need this income because we’ve bought wholesale into the American Dream of keeping up with our neighbors. Why do we do this to ourselves?

I’ve been challenged to keep my desires in check in this area, and I’m hoping to write more about this topic later.
