Most Deadly

Written by David on January 22nd, 2009

I must admit, I’m prone to extremes. I’m obsessive compulsive, yet easily distracted. One day I’m bothered by how much people try to find imagery for Christ, the cross, God, etc in life or in science, and the very next day I’m seeing or thinking of it myself. Actually I just recently watched Rob Bell’s DVD, “Everything is Spiritual” in which he looks at the Genesis story and creation in general showing how God is revealed through all of it, leaving us to live in an undeniably spiritual world.

But I recently saw an article by “How Stuff Works” where they described the most dangerous animal in the world. And it’s not what you’d expect if you’re a Westerner who’s lived mostly in very civilized areas. It’s mosquitoes. Now to me the weirdest part of this is that they are so small, yet they are so deadly. And it’s not the mosquito itself, but what it carries with it that’s most dangerous.

Most of my Christian life has been spent swatting at these flies. Too frequently I ignore them because they are small, and seemingly unimportant, but the reality is that they can be deadly. I must ask myself on a regularly, am I preventing mosquitoes from attacking my spiritual life?
