Missed the weekend?

Written by David on February 23rd, 2009

This weekend was one of those where I didn’t feel like it ever happened. Saturday was a crazy day traveling around, and my wife worked that night. Sunday was a crazy and early morning. Our church, New Life had a all-location service at Moody Bible Institute. It was a large event as all 11 locations gather for worship and preaching from Pastor Mark Jobe, the lead pastor. It was a great service, and an awesome opportunity to meet a lot of other New Lifer’s.
It was a good weekend, but a draining one, and this coming weekend I’ll be heading back to New Hampshire to see my sister get married. It will be an equally good weekend I’m sure as we’ll be catching up with my family, but busy.

What I really want to write about are the two messages I heard by Pastor Mark on Friday and Sunday.

On Friday he spoke about the story about when Moses almost died just before he got to Egypt to lead the people of Israel to the Promise Land. It’s a story of how frequently when God’s moving us to do something for him, he’ll require us to get rid of the junk in our past, sinful behaviors, or unresolved issues. Pastor Mark compared it to crossing the border of two countries and the things in your trunk that could keep you from crossing over to the other country. You’ve got to get rid of the junk in the trunk before you can move on.

On Sunday he spoke about the church of Ephesus, and how they had lost their first love. His challenge to the church was that we not lose sight of what our church’s first love was. And more specifically what it was like when we first became Christians. (The passion and fervency that we no longer have)
Both messages were a challenge to me to make sure I do get lazy in my faith, but to constantly keep up and work harder at pursuing my God. I hope you do the same, and take a journey of faith, chasing after God. Don’t look back.
